Recommendations For Jamie

Senior 3D Character Animator Omation Studios

“I supervised Jamie on the Barnyard where he animated some very funny scenes of Otis the Hero cow. Notably the "I've got the sweetlegs!" scene in which Otis dances wildly. This shot made everyone laugh in dailies everytime we viewed it. Somehow it got changed after Jamie and I left the movie. What's in the film is not as funny as Jamie's final. In this scene Jamie employed techniques beyond the accepted principles of animation to great affect. He squashed Otis's head bone as he bounced. He held Otis's head in place as the hips bounced so that the audience could read the funny expression.(Goofy does something similar when he demonstrates his sea legs in one of his shorts)

Jamie is a special breed. No one is more enthusiastic about animation or puts more of himself into his work. He animates beyond convention, always striving for immediacy and emotion in his performances. His work reminds me of the crazy animation by Jim Tyer in Terrytoons. He won't always hold model, but he'll come up with something very fresh and funny. A friend of production and completely dedicated.” November 10, 2008

“I had the great pleasure of working with Jamie on a musical sequence where we shared all the characters. We had to make sure our animation matched and had the same personalities. Since Jamie is also a superb musician, his animation was very convincing and full of performance nuances only a showman could bring out. I learned a lot from watching his work. Jamie brought a lot of insight into all his scenes and his acting was well thought out and heart felt. He's an easy going guy, easy to work with and an amazing talent. I hope we get to work together on something again” October 1, 2008

“I had the pleasure of supervising Jamie on The Barnyard. He was always positive and upbeat no matter how crushing the grind, and always very easy to work with. No nit was too picky that Jamie wouldn't just smile and say, "I'm on it, boss!"” January 6, 2009

“Jamie is a thorough professional who cares about his art. He has tremendous experience along with a natural flair for performance animation. A joy to work with.” December 23, 2008

“Jaime Dawkins was a great addition to our team of animators. His work was always on time and his personality was very laid back. If he is ever stressing over a shot you'd never know it. It's obvious his 2-D animation background helps him get the most out each performance in every shot. It was a pleasure to work with Jaime and I hope to cross paths with him again on another project.” October 24, 2008

“We sat side by side for almost two years, so I REALLY have something to say... that is:
Jamie is a wonderful animator, with plenty of passion and sense of humor. He is a very talented artist (and guitar player), with a great sense of responsibility and appreciation for what he does and a very supportive friend to have at your side (and drive you to the hospital in the middle of the night...) As a colleague, I couldn't recommend him more highly!” October 17, 2008

Paola Lecler, Character Animator, Omation

“Jamie was great to work with. Shots were always delivered on time no mater the size or scope of the shots. Jamie also always managed to infuse his work with his unique sense of humor which blended well into the tone of the film The Barnyard. Technically Jamie tackled a few hurdles outside the realm of animation and was only ever shown things once. Taking direction well but at the same time running with a project when given the opportunity.

I look forward to working with Jamie in the future.” October 15, 2008

Lead Animator Pipeline Studios

“I have known and worked with Jamie for the past few years and as an animator/lead Jamie brings many years of experience to the table. He is a true artist who loves his craft and always strives to bring the best to his work and true life to each character he works on.
As a lead Jamie gives his crew his full support and guidance. Each animator on his team knows that Jamie is there to help each of them reach their full potential and produce their best work.
In any position you can be assured that Jamie will give his best and work above and beyond to ensure that each production gets his full attention and highest level of creativity. I hope to work with Jamie again in the future and would not hesitate to recommend him for any production.” October 3, 2010

“I had the opportunity to work with Jaime on the new CG-Animated production of "Babar and the Adventures of Badou".
The schedule was tight and lots of work had to be done. But, while working under a lot of pressure, with Jaime's direction and time management we met the deadlines and finished each episode a few days earlier.
As I was someone who was fairly new to the field of animation, Jaime, with years of experience behind him, was understanding of my shortcomings and was there to lend a helping hand.
I am very grateful for his help and patience.” September 12, 2010

“Apart from being a very talented and experienced animator, Jamie is an excellent team lead. In a world of deadlines and retakes and retake deadlines, he keeps the team running efficiently, while never compromising quality or the wishes of the client. He gives his best and expects nothing less. And he does all this with a certain calm laidback approach that is rare. And to top it all, I have seldom seen anyone enjoy animating as much as he does. A quality that very clearly reflects in his work.” September 2, 2010

“Jamies leadership and animation skill with his humor made my experience one of the most memorable times in animation. Jamies style of allowing you to run with your ideas by maintaining the guidelines of the story gave more to the animation and to the team experience. There where many challenges and we fought through them with Jamie's nack for problem solving. Being in the trench's with the animators made the team pull together.
Cheers :)” August 30, 2010

“I recently worked with Jamie on the CG version of the popular series, Babar.
Even the pressure of working with 4 other companies on this production along with an extremely demanding schedule Jamie was calm and professional. I believe it was his management style over his team that lead to such a high caliber of quality on this show.

It was a pleasure to work with you Jamie.” June 24, 2010

Lead Animator Gallus Entertainment

“I had the pleasure of working with Jamie during my time at Gallus Entertainment.

I am relatively new to the industry, and found Jamie to be an incredibly helpful lead animator to myself, as well as the rest of the team. Under tight deadline's, Jamie always managed to sit with each animator, and go over every shot, and offer helpful advice that made all our shots stronger and more pleasing to the eye. Jamie has the gift of kindness and understanding, on top of being artistically inclined. These traits and more make's Jamie a necessary to any studio looking for an experienced, responsible forerunner who can lead, direct and train any group of animators. I admire Jamie for how responsible he is with managing his time, sequences and teammates. Although we were constantly under the gun with deadline's, Jamie never lost that coolness about him, and always offered to take on more then his share of work.

If I ever have the opportunity to open my own studio, Jamie would be amongst the top of my list. His experience speaks for itself, he is incredibly talented, calm, cool, collected and a genuinely nice person. I can only hope to achieve a quarter of his accomplishments in my future years as an animator, as Jamie has in his years in this industry.

I wish Jamie the best, and hope to work him again not only for his knowledge, skill and leadership, but also to learn by example, and better myself as an animator.” September 15, 2010
